In the large room, brightly lit, and lined with statues, Skaven, Skeletons, Mummies and a giant stone Guardian are joined in a bloody battle. Orpheus is once again attacked by the ancient Liche Lord, whose spirit is awake and aware somewhere in the deep. The King speaks through Orpheus, urging a defence of his tomb against the creatures of chaos. Orpheus, his head tipped back, eyes rolled until only the whites are visible, suddenly snaps back to life, unaware of what just happened.
Back on the second floor, above the battle, Urs and Maude continue their debate about whether Urs should don the suit of black armour that was found in one of the rooms back on the first floor. There is also a discussion about the merits of letting Gunther fight the Liche King, and then being able to pick off the winner.

Klaus Zeligschnetzen had several years on Lisseut De Aelis when they had a brief affair in 2515. Klaus' mastery of several dark magical arts had aged him prematurely, as had a narrow escape from a Witch Hunter called Waldred Veitte in 2512. He fled from Wissenburg, via Altdorf, to the run down Southgate district in Middenheim.
By 2518, Nancy Bechet had fallen in with him, although they were never lovers. Bechet's boyfriend, Jann van de Kuypers, despised Klaus, commenting "His rancid breath is as if from beyond the grave, his hair is falling out, and he lives happily with only a crow and the crow's droppings for company. He is not coming to my party, darling."

By his teens he was a formidable and vicious fighter, serving first with the 9th Reiklanders as a handgunner, then with Bertrecht’s Dirty Half-Hundred on their protracted and fateful Bretonnian campaign.

Eight-year-old Tilly's big brother Merovich was killed by Nancy Bechet and her step-mother Natalie in late 2521, along with many other men from the village of Argentan, just north of the Artois Forest.
The Bechets re-animated the unfortunate men, and Tilly happened to see the palid-skinned Zombies shuffling through the forest led by the women in black. Tilly realised who the men were, saw the wounds in the back of their necks, and didn't wait around to see if she would recognise her brother.
